Better upholstery, more thoughtful layouts, and if you go into the Mirage X3 or L3 CLZ you get triple-tube construction for a noticeably smoother ride. Most buyers who are serious about using their pontoon for years end up in the Mirage lineup.
What does CLZ mean?
CLZ is Sylvan’s triple-tube construction — three pontoons instead of the standard two. It’s wider, more stable, and handles chop significantly better. If you’re boating on bigger water with wind and wake — or if you have people who are sensitive to rough rides — the CLZ models are worth the step-up. The Mirage X3 CLZ and L3 CLZ are the ones to look at.
What’s the Mirage 822 Party Fish?
It’s the Mirage 822 configured for fishing — livewell, rod holders, fishing-focused layout — while keeping the comfort features the Mirage is known for. Honestly a great boat if half your group fishes and half just wants to relax. You don’t have to choose between a fishing boat and a family pontoon. It does both.
Can a Sylvan pontoon handle the Pamlico Sound?
On a calm day, a Sylvan does fine on the Sound. But be honest with yourself — the Pamlico can get choppy fast, especially with a northeast wind. A flat-hulled pontoon in two-foot chop is not a fun experience. If you’re regularly running the Sound, look at a CLZ triple-tube model at minimum, or consider whether a V-hull boat fits your use better.
